Referrals for Legal Malpractice

New York Lawyers Accepting Referrals

Attorneys are human. If you are an attorney, you have likely faced the unpleasant realization that a fellow attorney has committed malpractice. You may have had to counsel someone whose case suffered because of a colleague's mishandling, and you may not know where to turn.

Your colleague may have missed a deadline and caused a case to be dismissed. He or she may have committed a serious ethical violation. It may be a simple mistake that opens him or her up to accusations of incompetence.

At Schwartz, Ponterio & Levenson, PLLC, we understand the difficult position you are in. We will gladly listen to your concerns in full confidence. We are a small Manhattan law firm with a thriving legal malpractice practice extending throughout the New York metropolitan area, including the five boroughs, Suffolk County, Nassau County, and Westchester County.

In the past 10 years, our lawyers have successfully handled hundreds of legal malpractice cases, and have maintained the respect and admiration of the legal community. In such a contentious field, this is obviously no small feat.

Our success is in large part due to our observation of the highest standards of professional courtesy and ethics.

Statute of Limitations

In New York, the statute of limitations for legal malpractice claims is three years. If you are aware of another attorney's malpractice and fail to advise your client of the relevant deadline for filing suit, you too could be held responsible. We strongly encourage fellow attorneys to not let the statute of limitations run out. It is important to emphasize that if a statute of limitations runs out on your watch, you could be held liable for damages. You must either file a claim yourself or refer the client to another lawyer. At Schwartz, Ponterio & Levenson, PLLC, we can assist attorneys confronted with this difficult situation.
